Jeremiah 18:1-4 "The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, arise and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. Then I went down to the potter's house, and behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it."
Isaiah 64:8 "But now, O Lord, Thou art out Father; we are the clay, and Thou our Potter, and we all are the work of Thy Hand."
God began a work in us the moment we became born-again. We started out as a 'marred vessel' but God intended us to be 'conformed' to the image of His Son, Jesus. Conformed in the Hebrew is: 'jointly formed, fashioned like unto.'
To accomplish this He takes vessels of clay and 'molds' them in His strong, capable hands. This can be a very painful process at times. However, the 'refiner's fire' is a necessary procedure to rid ourselves of the flaws and imperfections that mar our 'image.'
We can 'chafe' at the 'kneading out' of the objectionable or we can willingly 'submit' our vessels to the work of the Master Potter. We can willingly allow Him to seal the cracks, to smooth the clay, to bring beauty out of brokenness. Or, we can squirm and try to escape the pressure of the 'molding' and thus remain a 'marred vessel', full of impurities and chaff. The choice is up to us. Copyrighted. All rights reserved.
