Broken
Hearts
Psalms 147:3
" He healeth the broken in heart, and
bindeth up their wounds."
Your husband/wife
wants a divorce, and you feel like your
heart is breaking.
Your son/daughter is into drugs/alcohol and far from the
Lord, you pray but don't know what to do. It hurts.
Your elderly parent has Alzheimer's, and doesn't
recognize
you most of the time. You miss the closeness you once
had.
Your best friend suddenly isn't, and you wonder what
went wrong.
Your house burns to the ground; gone in an instant is a
lifetime of memories and prized possessions.
Your beloved pet that has been your constant companion
for many years is sick/dies, and you mourn.
The one you are engaged to leaves you at the altar; you
want to die, it hurts so bad.
You are a homeless person, living on the streets, trying
to survive
just one more day; while all around you are people who
do not
care. You feel so alone.
You are an abused wife/child/parent/husband, and you try
to keep the pain locked inside your broken heart, while
trying
to cover up the bruises, even those that can't be seen.
Your child is sick/dies, and you feel you simply cannot
endure
the pain of loss one more second.
You were molested as a child and you cannot get past it.
The memories eat you alive.
Broken hearts. The world is full of hurts, full of
bruised broken people who feel they are drowning in a
sea of hopelessness. People who feel lost with nowhere
to turn. People who do not know the "God of all
comfort", and have no hope.
The world is also full of Christian people who hurt, who
have broken hearts. However, there is a difference in
how a
Christian should react to pain and sorrow. The people
who
know God have a place to run
to, they have hope, and they have comfort.
Psalms 34:17-19 ..."The righteous cry, and the Lord
delivereth them out of all their troubles. The Lord is
nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth
such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the
afflictions of the righteous, but
the Lord delivereth them out of them all."
It was William Taylor that said: "If God would make
manifest the fact that "He giveth songs in the night, He
must first make it night."
As long as there is life, there will be pain and sorrow.
Sorrow
and sadness is just as much a part of life as joy and
gladness.
But Christians can take comfort in Jesus' statement: "I
will never
leave nor forsake you."
Friends may often hurt and fail you. Your
parents/children/spouse
may forsake and turn their backs on you, but God never
will. We
cannot always count on friends or relatives, but we can
always
count on Jesus! He will never fail us.
Psalms 30:5b..."Weeping may endure for a night, but joy
cometh in the morning." Often it is in the times of deep
pain and sorrow that we may experience the love and care
of God the most. If we but turn to Him,
He will turn our mourning into rejoicing.
Isaiah 61:3a..."To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion,
to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for
the spirit of heaviness, that they may be called trees
of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He
might be glorified."
Friend, if you are reading this and you do not know the
One of whom I speak, you can. I urge you to turn to Him,
open your heart to Him. He will love and care for you
like no one else ever could. He will comfort you in your
sorrow, He will heal your broken heart. Run to Him, and
He will give you rest. He invites all to; "Come unto me,
all ye that labor and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest."
"The joy of the Lord is our strength!"
" I shall look at the world through tears. Perhaps I
shall see things that dry-eyed I could not see."
Nicholos Walterstonff
"The tears streamed down, making a pillow for my heart."
Augustine
"To say a person is deeply religious and therefore does
not have to face grief situations is ridiculous. Not
only is it totally
unrealistic, but it is also incompatible with the whole
Christian mesage." Granger E. Westbey
